Emu Feather Head Piece

An Emu Feather Headpiece is a traditional item worn during ceremonies, celebrations, and cultural gatherings just for fun. These headpieces were often worn by women and girls and were carefully handcrafted using materials gathered from Country.

The headband was made from strong string created from cotton tree bark and pandanus fibres. Emu body feathers were individually tied onto the band, secured with natural resin, and then coated with beeswax to strengthen and protect the bindings. Emu Feather Headpieces were not only beautiful to wear but also reflected the skill, knowledge, and connection to Country held by the people who made them.
